Blade Franchise Hampered
Oscar winning actor Mahershala Ali is going through serious issues on the set of the 2023 Blade remake. Ali is reprising Marvel’s “Blade” character originally played by actor Wesley Snipes.
Sources close to the actor say that Ali is frustrated with the entire production process, often not getting responses from production management, or getting his requested changes to a script that critics call lackluster.

Specifically the Blade 2023 script is being written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour, a Ghanaian writer, despite Blade’s character as originally being described as a Black American born in Detroit.
Osei-Kuffour is known for her writing on the 2019 ‘Watchman’ debacle and on the TV series, the ‘Morning Show’.

Meanwhile the movie’s own director Bassam Tariq, the Pakistani-born producer behind ‘Mogul Mowgli’ has stepped down as a director but still plans to remain on board for the project as an executive producer.
This caused Marvel Studios to put a break on the Blade production by ceasing all production-related activities till they find a new director to replace Bassam.
Marvel now claims that the Blade movie will now premiere on 6 September 2024 instead of next year.

Bayonetta Boycott?
Worldwide popular Sega game Bayonetta is facing backlash on social media thanks to a 5 minute long psa by Bayonetta’s voice actor, Hellena Taylor who also played on of the Asuran Counselors on Stargate and created the original voice for the now iconic Bayonetta video game character, has claimed that the production studio associated with the franchise, PlatinumGames is refusing to pay her anything more than $4,000 dollars for her reprisal of the role in the third game of the series.
Despite the Bayonetta game’s profits from the first 2 games indicating hundreds of millions of dollars being made internationally, Taylor alleges that the studio is following a larger industry trend of ridiculously underpaying its employees, specifically its voice actors.
The actor is now calling on the gaming community to boycott the third Bayonnetta game, as she refused to take the role due to what she considers unfair profit sharing.
As anime and gaming fans we’ve all no doubt heard the grueling hours that it takes to be a part of such booming industries, but we’ve also heard about how bad these companies can treat employees when they feel they have no other viable alternatives. It’s well known that the anime industry underpays its voice actors.

Just last year hit series Jujitsu Kaisen potentially lost millions of fans when its own actors including Chris Tergliafera (voice of Kiyotaka) & Anairis Quiñones (voice of Rika) took to Twitter and absolutely exposed studio MAPPA for offering them a measly $150 for their voice work in the Jiu Jitsu Kaisen movie that made an estimated $196 million worldwide.

John Haynes at Death’s Door Preparing for Next Kickstarter
Author & publisher Shawn James is nearing completion of his newest work which happens to be a comic. James has adapted one of his best selling works, the John Hanyes series, into a full-scale comic!

Gossipers speculate this story will revolve around Haynes’ adventures during his first arc, “Temptation of Death” which chronicles Haynes battles with the forces of good and evil as they vie for his mortal soul. This time with the angel of death infatuated with Haynes, only for him to find himself locked in a battle for his life with the Greek God of Death,Thanatos.
The John Haynes series provides positive, richly thought out, in depth Black characters without any unsavory agendas needlessly attached to them. With art by Antonio Baldari, this comic promises to impress.

To be honest all of James’ works which are published under SJS Direct are superb, and could definitely be made into an entire universe considering that another superheroine in the series, Isis is referenced in several other stories outside of her continuity.

Here’s a official reading order of the John Haynes series for newcomers.
The Temptation of John Haynes
The Man Who Rules The World
John Haynes: A Conversation With Death
John Haynes: Dark Succubus
John Haynes: The Man With Nothing To Lose
John Haynes: Taking Care of Business
The SJS directory expects for the comics to ship sometime near the end of this year and novel paperback editions can be purchased here.
A.X.E.: Judgment Day Nears Its End
What if the X-Men fought the Eternals?
I know what you’re thinking; “Who cares about the eternals?” and “Haven’t the X-Men already fought them?”
Well yes the X-Men have taken on the eternals before but never in all or nothing circumstances that involve most members of their groups and never when the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

Kieron Gillen gives us all of those possibilities and more with his take on a civil war between the two factions of deviants. Add the Avengers who still have unsettled business with Krakoa since the end of Jonathan Hickman’s now infamous run on X-men formally known as Dawn of X, and you better believe Cap’ and the Avengers want all the smoke too.

Fans Sour on Chris Pratt Voicing Mario
If you haven’t seen the new ‘Mario’ movie trailer, then you’re late to the internet. But what’s more surprising is the pure outrage Guardian of the Galaxy actor Chris Pratt is receiving for what many fans consider a outlandish and slightly racist impersonation of Mario, a Italian plumber.

Pratt’s impersonation is admittedly cringe to listen to, but are fans being too hard on him and studio Illumination Entertainment?
That’s it for this week’s Weeb Update, check back with us next week to see what the nerds are on.
